God’s Sovereignty

Today’s reading: Psalm 119:86-176

My selection: Psalm 119:89-91

89 Forever, O Lord, your word

 is firmly fixed in the heavens.

 90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations;

 you have established the earth, and it stands fast.

 91 By your appointment they stand this day,

 for all things are your servants.

My reflections: What does it mean that God is sovereign, that He rules over all? Here we get some insight on the matter.

1. It means His word cannot be thwarted. What He says stands.

2. It means that His faithfulness is unchanging down through the years of time, from generation to generation.

3. It means that the earth endures and we count on the continuation of the cycles of days, seasons and years without uncertainty.

4. It means that “all things are [His} servants.”  Everything serves God’s purposes. God ultimately works it all together for His glory and the good of His people.

My challenge: Do you praise Him for His sovereign rule over all things today? Are you confident in His rule and purposes?  Trust Him. Praise Him. He is ruling over the things out of your control which includes the things you mistakenly think are in your control.

Tomorrow’s reading: Psalm 120:1-131:3
