Godly Leadership: Giving Reassurance of His Presence
Today’s reading: Joshua 3:1-6:27
My selection: Joshua 3:10-13
10 And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, from each tribe a man. 13 And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.”
My reflections: Joshua wanted to make sure that the people were aware that it was the living God who was among them and that He would drive out the nations who occupied the land. He pointed them to God by reminding them that the ark was going before them. God would stop the waters of the Jordan from flowing when the priests stepped into it. Joshua had a monument built to commemorate the miraculous event of this crossing.
Here is wise leadership exemplified. The godly leader points his people to the LORD and keeps His presence, promises, power, and purposes before them. They would see victory in Jericho in a miraculous way.
My challenge: Do you keep the Lord’s presence, promises, power, and purposes before others? Start by keeping Him central in your own thoughts today. Those you lead and influence need to see the reality of God in your life.
