The Blessed Man
Today’s reading: Job 42:1-Psalm 7:17
My selection: Psalm 1:1
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
My reflections: I admire the characteristics of the blessed man. He is free from peer pressure. He loves God’s law so much that he meditates on it day and night. He is fruitful and prosperous in all he does.
But to whom is this referring? Who does all these things consistently? Do you? I don’t.
Christ alone has fully obeyed the law of God. Christ alone has lived the perfect life. All the rest of us are more accurately described in vs. 4-5.
Nevertheless, by faith, wicked men and women, and boys and girls become new creations IN Christ and participate in His life. In Him believers are blessed too because His righteousness has been credited to us (1 Co. 1:30).
My challenge: Believer, you will not be cast out in the day of judgment. You will by grace through faith stand in the congregation of the only truly Righteous One, God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Strive to be like Him who delights in God’s law but do not trust in your striving or despair in your failing. He saves all who to come to Him in faith and repentance.
Tomorrow’s reading: Psalm 8:1-15:5
