The Offering that Pleases God
Today’s reading: Exodus 40:34-Leviticus 5:13
My selection: Leviticus 1:13
but the entrails and the legs he shall wash with water. And the priest shall offer all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
My reflections: Here in Leviticus, the Old Testament church was given clear laws for how offerings were to be made. The goal of an offering was to please God. Offerings made according to law were pleasing to the Lord. Unlawful offerings do not please God no matter how sincere the worshiper. In Genesis 4, we saw that God accepted Abel’s offering but not Cain’s.
My challenge: We, as New Testament Christians, still need an offering in order to come to God, but that offering was made once for all by Jesus Christ. God was pleased with that offering. It was of all offerings the one sufficient offering for sin. Thus God is not only NOT angry with His redeemed people, He is pleased with the offering which His Son made on our behalf and He is pleased with us who trust in Him. Rejoice in His mercy and grace.
